Thanks for an engaging story that grapples with one of the enduring mysteries of science & philosophy: What is the nature of personal identity? :)

I maintain a careful neutrality on the matter. I don't think the question can be answered until we understand consciousness, a topic on which we've made very little scientific progress.

To my understanding, an android signifies part machine part man, mainly from Data in TNG. From the story however, I believe that Lashonda's Craig was a Craig-in-time. He was Craig from the DNA extraction and imprint. Craig Two, if you will. The Craig who changed his mind and really drew out his own future.

Long lost Craig was a man who had to find himself at the expense of his family and of his community. Seen as a dead beat at first, he had his own experiences derived from helping children and the Bolivian agriculture. Not even the same Craig that Lashonda would have ever recognized.

I believe that the custody arrangement should have honestly stayed with Lashonda and Craig Two. In my view, no amount of lost time could be made up for 7 years of disappearance.

I really enjoyed the story, thank you for sharing!

You are most welcome! I love your summaries of the two Craigs: Craig Two as someone who drew out is own future, and Long lost Craig as not even the same Craig that Lashonda would have ever recognized.
